Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to make an appointment to try on wedding gowns? Yes, we strongly recommend making an appointment in order to give you the full attention of our bridal consultants.

How long will the appointment last? Bridal gown appointments are approximately 1 1/2 hours long.

What should I bring to my appointment? It is helpful if you bring pictures of dresses you've seen in magazines and on the Internet.  Bring a strapless bra if you have one.  We have shoes for you to try on with the gowns.

Who should I bring to my appointment? Bring your closest friend or family member whose opinion you value and who knows you well, and with whom you want to share the experience of buying your wedding gown.  Bringing more than three others can take the focus off of you.

What size gowns are available for me to try on? Most of our samples are sizes 10 through 14, which fit like traditional sizes 6 though 10.  We do have some in sizes 16-20, and can order most of our gowns in plus sizes.

How far in advance do I need to buy my gown? It's best to order your gown 9 to 12 months before your wedding.  All of our gowns are special order and are made specifically for you by the designer, based on your measurements.

Should I have a budget set for my gown before my appointment? Yes, it is helpful to know how much you want to spend on your gown before you start looking.  Our gowns range in price from about $1200 to $5000.  The higher end gowns are typically made of finer fabrics such as silk and French lace, and are made in the United States.

How do I pay for my gown? We require a 50% deposit to place the order.  We accept Visa, Master Card, Discover, cash and personal checks.  When your gown arrives in our store and has been thoroughly inspected, we will call you to schedule your "try on" appointment.  The remaining balance is due at this time.

When should I order my veil and accessories? Veils can take three months to arrive.  If you didn't make your veil decision when you ordered your gown, we can assist you in your veil and accessory choices at your "try on" appointment.

Are alterations included in the cost of my gown? No, alterations are not included.  Our independent seamstresses work directly from their respective studios, and not on location at Lily~Saratoga.  We will provide a list of our highly qualified seamstresses for you to schedule your fitting.  We suggest you have your first fitting 8-10 weeks before your wedding.  We will store your gown here at Lily~Saratoga until the time of your first fitting.  We will also keep it after your final fitting and steam or press it before the wedding.

Why is it important to only order my gown from an authorized retailer? Authorized retailers have a direct relationship with the designers they carry.  This protects you, the customer, from fraud.  Gowns ordered from a shop that is not an authorized retailer may be counterfeit.  Additionally, if they are flawed in any way, you will have no recourse in correcting the situation.  As authorized retailers, if your gown is not perfect when it arrives in our shop, we will be sure to have the designer correct any problems.

What is a trunk show? A trunk show is a special in-store event when you can view and buy from a designer's latest collection.  These gowns are in addition to our regular inventory and are only in the store during that trunk show.  Gowns purchased from a designer during a trunk show are discounted.  Trunk shows usually run from Thursday to Saturday.

What is a sample sale? A sample sale offers you the opportunity to purchase one of our store sample gowns at a greatly reduced price, as much as 80% off.  The gowns are sold as-is, are priced according to their condition, and are a final sale.  We typically hold our annual sale in September, but some sample gowns are available for sale throughout the year.
