Featured Lily Bride: Amy

Our recent Lily Bride, Amy stunned wearing a gown by designer Martina Liana for her Fall 2020 nuptials! One AHH-Mazing feature of this designer is that they can accommodate amazing customizations of their gowns. If you can dream it up, there’s a good chance these amazing designers can make your vision come to life. Amy came in to our shop looking for a long sleeve wedding dress, and ended up completely customizing a beaded lace sleeve onto an existing Martina Liana bridal gown style. We asked Amy to give us a little insight into her bridal shopping experience and being a #lilybride. Check out what she had to say!

1. How was your experience at Lily Saratoga overall?

I went to several different bridal salons in the Capital Region and Lily Saratoga was by far the best. From booking my first appointment to finally picking up my wedding gown the staff at Lily's were friendly, super responsive and knowledgeable. I can not say enough good times about Lily. I would recommend this place to any bride in the area.

2. Explain your experience with creating a custom design from Martina Liana.
Creating a custom design from Martina Liana was surprisingly an easy experience. Once deciding on a design, Lily staff took care of everything else.

3. Did you feel comfortable trusting us to create your vision? Did you know you wanted a long sleeve gown?
It has always been my dream to have a long sleeve wedding gown but I had a hard time finding one that I loved. I was beginning to lose hope and moved to looking at different style dresses. I tried on the Martina 895 and loved the dress but something was missing. Once I was informed that Martina would add a custom sleeve, I knew that was the dress for me. Laura pulled out some other Martina long sleeve gowns so we would get an idea of what customization I wanted. Once I decided on a design, Laura drew a photo of the customization and sent it to Martina for me. The process was so easy and I trusted Laura's experience and knowledge to guide me in the front direction.

4. PIcking out your vendors is a big part of what makes your day even more memorable. Which vendors did you decide to go with?

5. Best advice to brides currently searching for the perfect dress!

Trust your gut and don't let anyone change your mind. As corny as it sounds, you will know when you found the one- don't settle.

Featured Lily Bride:: Catherine

Our Lily Bride, Catherine, got married on December 31, 2019. Her gorgeous New Years Eve wedding was held at Browns Brewing Company and she chose a custom Martina Liana gown. We had the most amazing time helping her customize her beaded long sleeves, and she looked absolutely incredible!

“I loved everything about Lily Saratoga. Everyone there makes you feel so special and cared for. I would recommend Lily Saratoga to anyone!”

IMG_9004.jpeg

We asked Catherine to share some details about her magical day with us, and here’s what she had to say about her bridal experience:

“My wedding ceremony took place at St. Ambrose Church in Latham, NY. The reception was at Brown's Revolution in Troy, NY. It was a beautiful New Years Eve wedding! We got ready at my house where Carina Scott Makeup was so kind to come and do my makeup. Carina is so unbelievably talented. I knew that she would take care of me and would make me look my absolute best, which she did and then some! Carrie and her staff from Brown's made everything so beautiful and perfect. I also had the most amazing photographer Jessica Hilton of Jessica Jean Photography. She made me feel comfortable and beautiful and it was all so natural. All of these incredible, hardworking people truly helped to make my day so special.”

Do you remember who your Lily consultant was? How would you describe your experience with her?

“I worked with a handful of amazing Lily staff members. Every single one greeted you with a warm smile. They made you feel so comfortable and so beautiful.”

Did you go on a Honeymoon?

“My husband and I went to Breckenridge, Colorado for our honeymoon! We had the most amazing time. We went skiing, snowmobiling, and horseback riding. We also went to spas, went out to eat at amazing restaurants and did some shopping. We did so many amazing things but the best part was being able to experience it together as newlyweds.”

Did you enjoy the planning process?

“Overall I did enjoy the planning process. At times it felt stressful because there was always so much to do. However I have the best family who supported me and helped me the whole way. I also met so many amazing people like the staff at Lily Saratoga, and Carina Scott Makeup who truly helped to make the planning process so much more enjoyable for me”

I would recommend Lily Saratoga to anyone! It truly is worth the experience.

Brides Across America 2020

We were so excited to be able to host our second annual Brides Across America event this past July! Brides Across America is a not-for-profit organization that partners with bridal boutiques across the U.S. in gifting weddings and wedding gowns to our military and first responders. As 2020 has been a year like no other, Brides Across America decided to open their program up to the selfless frontline workers fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

We received such a great response to our event this year that we decided to open it up for two days. Between July 9 & 10 we were able to host 23 military brides, first responders & frontline workers in our boutique. It was an honor to be able to give back to our community this way, and we were so happy to work with so many exceptional women who may not normally have the opportunity, time or resources to shop for a wedding gown. This year we ended up doubling our 2019 donation and gave away nearly $53,000 in wedding dresses & accessories!

We were lucky enough to have the talented Hannah Rosie with us to photograph some of these amazing women. Thank you to those who attended for all that you do to help our community!

Whether it’s for love of country or love at the altar, our military and first repsonders deserve our very best. Since 2008, Brides Across America has played a role in making their dreams come true by giving a military or first responder bride a free wedding gown during an “Operation Wedding Gown Event”.

To date we have gifted over 24,000 wedding dresses and over 22 free weddings. Each year we host dozens of Operation Wedding Gown giveaway events at participating bridal salons nationwide. Events are held in July (around Independence Day) and November (around Veteran’s Day).
— Brides Across America

We were able to chat with some of our brides from this event and get their perspectives on their experiences. We are so humbled to hear how they are risking their lives, day in and day out to keep us all protected. We are thrilled to be able to bring some joy and light to them, especially during these last few months. One of our BAA brides, Danielle, works on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic and hearing her words makes our hearts smile!

I’m a Respiratory Therapist at Albany Medical Center. Our jobs as RTs are up close and personal on the COVID front. The past few months have been trying times with all of the incoming information and ever changing policy and procedures.

I got engaged in May and unfortunately haven’t been able to celebrate my engagement with family and friends like I would have liked. Wedding planning right now is a bit different .

When I found out from a coworker about the Brides Across America program with Lily Saratoga I was insanely excited but never thought I would get in. I was absolutely stunned with my dress I found at Lily’s and I am so grateful for this experience! It brought so much joy to these times for me.

Thanks for recognizing front line healthcare workers! It means so much!

I tell everyone this story!

Danielle Cogan

I’d like to thank you for being such selfless and compassionate people, you’re forever part of many couple’s lives as we embark on a journey of faith, love and happiness with our significant partner!
— Naomi Hart, US Army

BAA bride, Naomi, was sweet enough to share her story with us. We love hearing about how love prevails even through life’s hardships. Not only is she a US Army Veteran, but she stepped up to battle the Covid-19 crisis. We are so honored to have been able to help Naomi find the perfect bridal gown and give back to this amazing couple!

When I first met Sergio, I couldn’t put my finger on as to why I saw him substantially unique. We have countless commonalities, yet significantly different personalities and despite it all, our cores coincide in desires, emotions, needs, values, and the will to fight for tomorrow.

Our financial picture is not ideal however we’d like to be able to create an intimate and memorable moment with our closest family and friends (no more than 50). We hope to create those memories in Watertown, NY in January 2021. To date what we know for certain is that our ceremony will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Massey.

I met Sergio when I returned home to Hawai’i for my step father’s one-year passing anniversary. At this point in my life, the air I breathed was finally life giving. Living in the Pacific Northwest healed me from a tiresome divorce and the unforgiving journey that an inconclusive virus imprinted on my life after being deployed to South America with the U.S. Navy.

Online has become a norm and as two working and career driven adults, it’s how we met. A few days later, we shared a meal, played a terrible game of pub trivia and engaged in a timeless conversation. Our connection was naturally genuine and so we dove right in and became inseparable. My daughters Elizabeth and Bridget were witness to a real partnership and family, they called him dad of their own free will. We relocated to Fort Drum, New York and after trying for a year, discovered we were expecting! In late February 2020, Sergio deployed for the sixth time, a nine-month deployment to the foothills of the Afghanistan mountains. Assigned to a desolate post, he leads twenty-three soldiers, attached to special operations unit.

Sergio is a humble, decorated, Senior Non Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Army. Having received a purple heart for being wounded in action and inducted into the Order of Saint Maurice having made significant contributions to the infantry while deployed during the invasion of Iraq, he is undoubtedly a brave and selfless man. I am beyond proud of him, yet fearful for war’s uncertainties. Because I was a high-risk pregnancy, the girls and I returned to Hawai’i where I would give birth surrounded by support. The fairytale was over, all my anxieties surfaced. Sergio kept us strong; through independent counseling, virtual couple’s therapy and couple’s faith-based learning to marry in the catholic church. We continue to become closer and stronger, together. Then, the pandemic occurred and what was originally a thirteen-week follow-up, turned into scheduling a next day dilation and curettage; we lost our baby.

After our loss, I felt an immense calling and volunteered for the state’s only mobile COVID-19 task force to utilize my military and medical work experience on the frontlines. My mother, whom we were living with was not pleased with me volunteering and demanded I stop or immediately vacate with my children. At first, Sergio wasn’t pleased with my involvement either, but we communicate exceptionally well, and he realized that our heart to serve is greater than fear. Me and my daughters have been temporarily living with my aunt until we return to Watertown, New York (where Sergio’s unit is home based) on June 9th 2020.

Year 2020 has presented itself with a relentless mound of hardships. However, the storm doesn’t last forever and in each other through our growth, we have found our family’s place in Walden (Henry David Thoreau reference). We look forward to the day where we can start 2021 anew!
— Naomi Hart, US Army

Thank you to all of the brides who participated in this event with us! It was a pleasure to give back to you for all your service. Your courage and determination are a constant reminder of how you nobally protect and serve your communities everyday. We are already excited to give back again at next years Brides Across America Event!

Love,

Laura and the Lily Ladies

Brides Across America

Last year we had the honor of hosting a Brides Across America event in our shop. Brides Across America is a non-profit organization that gifts wedding gowns to our military and first responders. Founded in 2008, the organization has, to date, donated 24,000 gowns to women who put themselves on the front lines for our safety. The organization has stated its core purpose “Is to have bridal salons and wedding professionals bring awareness and support by expanding their philanthropy efforts by holding bridal gown giveaway events in their community. We believe in changing lives and transformation.  If we can change one life and make a difference, we have done what we set out to do. By taking action today, you can unite with us in passing on the love and making a dream come true.

We had such an incredible time contributing to making wedding dress dreams come true. Last July we closed the shop to the public and hosted 15 heros and their families. There was not a dry eye in the house as bride after bride found her gown. And shoes. And veil.

We are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting the second annual Brides Across America event on Friday, July 10th and will be adding covid-19 frontline healthcare heroes to those individuals who can qualify to receive a dream wedding dress! At Lily Saratoga, we are incredibly thankful to those that have risked their own lives to better the lives of others, especially during these unprecedented times. If you or someone you know qualifies for this event, please email us to set up an appointment. Space is limited for this event and appointments are required. We hope this is a way we can show our gratitude and look forward to partnering with Brides Across America again this year.

The Language of a Bridal Appointment: Lace Hem Unattached

The Language of a Bridal Appointment, Part 1

Buying a wedding gown is unique and special and should be one of the many highlights building up to your big day. An aspect of this experience being unique, though, is that a lot of what to expect and the language used is unknown and that can be intimidating. We thought we would do a blog post to prepare you for the possible unknowns so you can fully enjoy the experience and not worry about the strange things coming out of your consultant’s mouth.

At Lily’s we carry both couture and made-to-order designers. The main difference between those two types of designers is how you can customize them. Let's say that you find THE dress. It has everything you were looking for and you get that feeling but there are one or two things you want to change. With a couture gown, you are able to make that change with the designer- for example, turning a long-sleeved gown into a strapless gown. With a couture gown you work with the designer to re-imagine your gown to fit the look you want. With a made-to-order gown you would order the gown as-is and then you would work with your seamstress to make the changes you are looking for. An example of each collection would be the following: Essense of Australia is a made-to-order collection, while Martina Liana is a customize-able couture line.

While we are talking about customizations, let's discuss custom length and lace hem unattached. With some designers in our shop, you are able to order your gown to a custom length. Custom length scales down a dress’s detail work to fit your height. This helps to keep the detail work that is sometimes lost during the process of hemming a dress. Sample gowns are made for brides who are 5’11”, as it is much easier to hem a gown then add length to it. We generally encourage brides 5’5” and under to consider custom length. In that same vein, gowns that have lace along the hem can usually be ordered with the lace hem unattached.

The photos above are an example of how the hem of a dress would look with the lace hem unattached. The reason for this option is that during the hemming process your seamstress will have to remove the lace, hem the gown and then add the lace back on. This is a very labor and time intensive process, so when you order your gown with the lace hem unattached you are saving your seamstress (and your budget) extra effort. Your consultant will discuss these options with you during your appointment, letting you know what your options are and the best one to take.  The gown below is the exact same gown with the lace hem attached!

Stay tuned for the next post where we discuss silhouettes and fabrics!!

Stay Healthy!

Blog Takeover :: Nina

Hey guys!

Nina here. I have been a bridal consultant at Lily Saratoga for 3 years now. In that time, I had never even thought about trying a wedding gown on, until Laura (our fearless leader) recently asked me to help out with a photo shoot at one of our local vendors. The Workers Club. It’s such a great spot to catch up on your work. Especially if you are sick of working from home, which we all will be after social distancing for so long. How gorgeous is this space?! We can’t wait to get back in there.

As most of you know, Lily carries Essense of Australia & Martina Liana. These 2 amazing brands have started making plus size gowns, a collection called EBEB - Every bride/every body. Essense of Australia believes that every bride should be able to feel and look her most beautiful regardless of her body type.

ebeb.png
Not only do we have wedding dresses fit for your body shape and size, but also to fit your unique style. Our collection has trend-setting styles including glamorous beaded gowns, sexy backs with illusion lace, relaxed boho silhouettes, picture-perfect ballgowns, and vintage-inspired fit and flare styles.

With that being said, I was fortunate enough to have been able to try on our EBEB dresses and play dress up! I’ve always dreamed of wearing a wedding gown but I never thought I would be able to get the opportunity to model them. Putting a wedding gown on for the first time is very surreal. Even with not being engaged and planning a wedding. Lily Saratoga has a large selection of EBEB dresses in store. I was able to choose the styles I liked. I’m very simple, I don’t typically prefer a lot of bling or lace but being that I had never tried on dresses before I knew that I needed to try something out of my comfort zone. I tried on a mermaid styles and a-lines. Let me tell you, I definitely preferred the a-lines. So much more comfortable and more breathable!

Thank you to the following for making this shoot happen!

Laura, Owner of Lily Saratoga, Carina Scott Makeup, The Workers Club and Violets of Saratoga

Models: Nina Rizzuti & Sierra Hotaling

Head over to the Essense of Australia website to view more plus size EBEB gowns! We can’t wait to have our brides back into the shop and help them to find their dream dresses. Until then, sending you all lots of love and allll of the dreamy gowns!

Thanks for visiting!

Growth, milestones & bridal magic: a look back at 2019

Hello to all of our Lily Loves out there! There is so much going on in the world right now, and we just want you to know that we are here for you, and we will get through this together. To all of our #lilybrides who are faced with postponing their weddings, our heart breaks for you. We have been so humbled and thankful for the continued love and support we’ve felt from each and every one of you, and sincerely hope to be an outlet of strength for you all. Just keep in mind that love is never cancelled, and your day will be magical, no matter the when it takes place.

With our shop currently closed to the public, we have a little more time to work on other projects, like blogging! Focusing on the bright side of things, we feel that there’s no better time than now to be staying in touch with our #lilybride community in every way possible.

To start off, we wanted to recap our top 7 of all the amazing things that happened during 2019… and just maybe use it as a little foreshadowing for good things to come in 2020 🌈

lilys-33.jpg

1. A virtual makeover

We started out 2019 by revamping our logo and website. We worked with the talented Cara Maryanopolis of CM Marketing, who helped us transform our logo while staying true to our roots. See the before and after below:

2. A breathtaking photoshoot at Stone Bridge Farm

Early in 2019, we partnered with some amazing vendors on a two-part photoshoot at Stone Bridge Farm, in Schuylerville, NY. With nearly 100 acres, this property offers mountainous views, a huge arena that can accommodate a 100-500 person reception, stables, racetrack and a gorgeous house that serves as the perfect getting ready location. With so much to cover, our vendor team broke the shoot down into two parts over multiple days. Part I of the shoot focused on the beautiful getting ready location.

Mazzone Catering | Rain or Shine Tent Rental | Bride: Candace in Martina Liana | Bridesmaids: former Lily Brides Catherine & Stephanie in Jenny Yoo

For Part II of the shoot, the team wanted to showcase what the event space at Stone Bridge is capable of. The amazing vendor team worked so hard to create a beautiful rehearsal dinner and reception setup in the main arena. Matt Ramos was also able to capture some incredible bridal party photos around the property. Fun fact: Lily Saratoga Owner, Laura, got roped into modeling after two of our bridesmaids models got sick. Sierra, one of our Saturday Consultants, also modeled! See if you can spot them in the photos!

3. An OMG moment

Later in the Spring, we partnered with some amazing women on a photoshoot that wound up being featured on THE wedding blog... Style Me Pretty! This shoot was coordinated by the sweet and talented Kelly, of Kelly Strong Events, and took place at the Blue Hen inside the Adelphi Hotel. Our model, Samantha Grey, wore an off-the-shoulder wedding gown by Essense of Australia & a blush satin bridesmaid dress by Jenny Yoo.

4. Giving Back: Brides Across America

In July, we had the extreme privilege of partnering with Brides Across America to host an ‘Operation Wedding Gown Giveaway’ event. Fourteen amazing women, who were either the fiancés of Active Military/First Responders or serving themselves, went home with their dream wedding dress for FREE. This was an incredibly moving experience for us, and we were so happy to be able to give back to our community and country. This event is totally deserving of it’s own separate post, so please check back for that. We will also be announcing our 2020 Operation Wedding Gown Giveaway date at that time! For now, here are a few photos by Hannah Rosie Photo:

5. New Lily Ladies

These two lovely ladies joined our crew. Meet Theresa & Cara:

6. A strategic expansion

Later in 2019, we took over the adjacent space in the lower level of our historic Victorian home. This doubled our storage & prep area and allowed us to turn our previous storage area into a special area for our bridesmaid dresses! Renovations were completed in September, and we moved all our bridesmaid dresses downstairs to our Bridesmaid Suite, complete with two fitting rooms and a seating space. An added bonus: our bridal gowns got a little more breathing room upstairs and we have even more space to add another collection! Photos by Michelle Lange & Carina Antonucci.

7. We celebrated our ‘crystal’ year anniversary

2019 celebrated 15 years of servicing brides...and we did it in style! We invited past & present #lilybrides, industry friends, past & present Lily Staff and their families, and of course the prior owners of Lily Saratoga! Some amazing vendors helped us to pull this off, including Kelly Strong Events, Michelle Lange Photography, Carina Scott Makeup, Samantha Nass Floral Design, Austin Bayliss Cakes, Muffin Top Baker, Brown’s Brewing Company, Cara Maryanopolis Marketing & Design, and Lauren Childs Magina. Take a peak at Michelle Lange’s amazing photos from our 15 Year Anniversary Celebration.

Thank you so much for reliving the best of 2019 with us! Cheers to good things to come in the rest of 2020!

Love,

The Lily Ladies

Lily Bride | Taylor + Scott

Every once in a while, you come across a wedding that nailed every single bridal detail, a wedding straight out of a magazine, seriously. We are so obsessed with Taylor and Scott’s gorgeous Museum of Dance wedding in downtown Saratoga Springs. Taylor looked like a goddess in her Modern Trousseau silk chiffon gown with ultra low back and deep V neckline. #SWOON. The photography by Rachel Liz Photography is so dreamy, we are totally in love. Check out their beautiful wedding day! Congratulations to Taylor + Scott!

A little Valentine's Day Surprise..

Things have been changing over here at Lily Saratoga!  We have been working on a special treat for our brides, and its finally time to fill you all in on our little secret.  Instead of sending out valentines this year, we decided to give some major bridal love to all of our sample sale brides......

We are extremely proud to announce that we have expanded our shop!  We are falling in LOVE with our brand new Sample Sale Bridal Suite!

Brides that are interested in purchasing a sample sale gown now have the opportunity to view our large collection of over 50 stunning gowns in your own private suite.  Our small group private room addition includes your very own fitting room and mirrored try on space for you and few of your favorite people.  Lily Saratoga believes every brides deserves to feel special and have that amazing gown experience, no matter the budget! We encourage our sample sale brides to bring your most important people with you to the appointment, you never know when you are going to find "THE ONE"!

Question: What is a sample sale?

Answer: A sample sale is when a boutique sells the gowns that brides try on in the store, often very large discounts.

We have 50 gowns under $1500, with the lowest gowns starting at $199 and many of our gowns are between 50-70% off!  Lily Saratoga goes to Bridal Market twice a year and purchases for our shop, and with all those gowns coming into the store, we always have beautiful gowns available for sample sale.

lilys-23.jpg

We are so excited to share our gorgeous new Sample Sale Suite with our potential Lily Brides!

Be sure to call and book your appointment for the sample sale room if you are interested in trying on some of these gorgeous gowns!  We can't wait to meet with you!

Grab your Besties.... It's Mimosa Time!

Looking for different type of gift to get your girls? Having mimosas while you’re getting ready on your big day but TERRIFIED they’ll spill on the dresses? Look no further than this insulated stemless wine glass, thoughtfully donated to us for a trial run by Groovy Guy Gifts.  These tumblers are SO cute- the perfect gift for your bridesmaid besties!  Aren't they adorable!?

Here’s the rundown:

edited.jpg

Thermal Insulation: I can personally attest that this kept my coffee hot for over 3 hours, and my mimosa cold for about 3 (I was super thirsty). My second mimosa stayed cold for hours!

Shape: Your standard stemless wineglass with some extra thickness due to the thermal insulation. BE WARNED! I tried to take this in the car with me while it was holding my morning coffee, and it does not fit in a standard car cup holder. Don’t be reckless like me and try to make it fit anyway, because at one point in your drive you will stomp the break, the wineglass will roll forward several times, and there will be coffee in your car.

Top and Straw: You read right, this baby comes with its own straw. Definitely use it! While the removable top of the wineglass has a great seal on it, the sliding closure on the mouthpiece does not and is prone to leaks. The mouthpiece is also quite small, so your sips without the straw will be little too. Do yourself a favor and keep that straw handy!

Personalization: Our stemless wineglass came with a matte black outer shell and totally awesome sparkly rose gold “Lily Saratoga” script on the front. You are able to choose from 5 different shell colors and 7 script colors. While the script is an application on the glass, as opposed to an engraving, it held up well over several uses and I didn’t see any wear or tear on our sparkly name. your ladies will be able to see their personalized glass from across the room!

Care: Hand wash only on these beauties, like most insulated glasses. Plus taking gentle care will help keep your personalization fresh and clean for ages!

No doubt this stemless wineglass would make a fantastic gift for your bridesmaids, your weekly girls brunch, or anything else you would want insulated stemless wineglasses for. And let's not forget the guys!  If you're looking for unique personalized groomsmen gifts, check out Groovy Groomsmen Gifts.  This online shop will have everything you need for all of the men in your wedding party. Just be sure to keep hold of them in your cars and use those straws! Cheers!

Pricing: $30/ glass with free shipping on orders of $75 or more.
